Timboon Railway Shed Distillery

Located 15 minutes inland from the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road, Timboon has been making Single Malt Whisky since 2007. With an onsite Cooperage, all their barrels are shaved and charred in house before being filled with spirit. Victorian Grains, Australian Casks, and Timboon Time.

The town of Timboon has long been known as a destination for the gourmet. Located in the South West of Victoria, the surrounding land is lush and fertile. Originally made famous for ice cream and cheese, Timboon was missing something: Good Booze. Established in 2007 by Tim Marwood, the distillery immediately started laying down barrels for whisky production. Fast forward 3 years and Timboon’s very first Single Malt Whisky was bottled. The distillery was growing rapidly and was in need of a fresh face. In 2014 it was put up for sale purchased by another local, Josh Walker. Josh was no stranger to hard work. At age 17 he already had his own farm contracting business. While he and his wife Caitlin were on a working holiday in Kentucky, news of the distillery sale reached them. Documents were quickly signed, and tractors were literally traded for barrels of whisky. The Timboon Railway Shed Distillery now produces 10,000 litres of Single Malt Whisky a year. Victorian malted barley is mashed, fermented, and distilled onsite. The Ex-Fortified barrels are also shaved and charred by Josh’s Father-in-law, Heath, at the A’Beckett’s Creek Cooperage. Josh has still kept close to his agricultural roots. He also farms Black Angus cattle just down the road. The “Beefies” play an important role in their closed-loop production, eating the spent grain after mashing. Located in an old railway shed, the distillery has a restaurant, bar, and enormous collection of Aussie Craft Spirits. Come and try some of Victoria’s oldest Single Malt Whisky. If that’s not to your liking, one of their gins or liqueurs surely will.
