Hold onto your hats, folks! Granddad Jack’s, the beloved Australian craft distillery, is taking a giant leap across the pond. In a bold move that underscores their commitment to growth and global recognition, Granddad Jack’s has decided to sell their Brisbane distillery to focus on expanding into Europe. This decision isn't just about selling a location; it's about embarking on an international adventure that promises to bring their acclaimed craft spirits to new heights.
The first Granddad Jack’s Bar Experience in Europe is set to open in Copenhagen within the next 6 to 12 months. This isn’t just any expansion - it's a joint venture with their Danish distributor, Gin Maestro, a partnership that promises to blend Australian ingenuity with Danish sophistication. And this is just the beginning. Better yet, plans are already in motion to scout for a second European site, slated to open in 2025.
“We’re thrilled to shift our focus to Europe,” says David Ridden, Granddad Jack’s CEO and Co-Founder. “With our export business booming across Europe and Asia, the Brisbane location has been a challenge to manage. This decision allows us to seize the immense opportunities awaiting us in Europe.”
Despite this geographic pivot, Granddad Jack’s isn’t forgetting its roots. Known for their family-owned approach, which has endeared them to customers in Queensland and beyond, this ethos will continue to guide their international expansion. “As a family-owned craft distillery, supporting locals and giving back to our communities remains central to everything we do,” Ridden emphasizes. The heartfelt thanks to Brisbane supporters resonate deeply, as they’re invited to visit the Gold Coast distillery and Newcastle bar.
Founded in 2017, Granddad Jack's Craft Distillery quickly became a leader in the Australian craft spirits scene. Their journey began on the Gold Coast and has since extended to nine countries worldwide. In January 2024, they opened their first Granddad Jack’s bar in Newcastle, marking the start of their experiential venues that blend intimate bar settings with their renowned craft spirits. Their handcrafted spirits, celebrated for their quality and authenticity, are now set to charm the European market. The Copenhagen bar will not only offer their classic range but also introduce unique, location-specific creations that reflect the local culture while staying true to Granddad Jack’s ethos.
This move is more than just a business decision; it’s a testament to Granddad Jack’s vision and ambition. By focusing on the European market, they’re not just selling spirits; they’re sharing stories, crafting experiences, recognising the Australian spirit scene and building a community of enthusiasts who appreciate the art of distilling.
While Brisbane will be missed, the promise of new adventures in Europe is exhilarating. As Ridden aptly puts it, “We haven’t ruled out returning to Brisbane in the future to open a Granddad’s Bar like the one we have in Newcastle. But right now, our sights are set on growing our business internationally.”
The Brisbane distillery will close its doors on July 6th, with a farewell party for all. While the chapter in Brisbane concludes, the distillery will live on under new branding and management, ensuring that the 'spirit' of craft distilling continues in the same location.
In the grand scheme of things, this is an absolute win-win situation. Granddad Jack’s continues to innovate and expand, taking their family spirit and exceptional craft to new audiences, while loyal fans in Australia can continue to enjoy their favourite spirits and support a brand that exemplifies dedication, quality, growth and community spirit. So, here's to Granddad Jack’s, as they set sail on this exciting new chapter, bringing a piece of Australia to the world, one exquisite spirit at a time.
Make sure to visit Granddad Jack’s Brisbane location one last time on their final day, July 6th, to celebrate their third anniversary with a grand farewell party. It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy their craft spirits, reminisce, and be part of this special moment as they close this chapter of their Brisbane journey.
