As the last of the autumn leaves drift to the ground and the air takes on that familiar chill, there's something exciting brewing (or rather, distilling) in the world of whisky. It’s that magical time when distilleries unveil their latest creations, promising warmth and complexity to carry us through the colder months. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, these autumn whisky releases are set to tingle your taste buds and ignite your senses. Here’s a roundup of the must-watch releases that will be hitting the shelves soon.

7K Distillery's '7KD003 Solera Cask'

Let’s kick things off with a bang. The 7KD003 Solera Cask, finished in a seasoned PX cask, is a standout release celebrating World Whisky Day. Limited to just 43 bottles, this whisky is as exclusive as it gets. At 45.1% ABV, this 500ml bottle is aged for 4 years, 4 months, and 27 days, presenting a vintage oak hue that sets the stage for a sensory adventure.

On the nose, expect a rich bouquet of toffee and burnt honey, mingling with forest berry muesli and plum sauce. The palate is a lush tapestry of Madeira, rum-soaked raisins, and fine fortified wines, enhanced by the delightful sweetness of cherry clafoutis dusted with icing sugar. The finish is nothing short of luxurious, sweet and lush, lingering beautifully on the palate.

Battery Point Distillery's 'Islay Cask #2’

Next up is the BPD ‘Islay Cask #2’ from Battery Point Distillery, a whisky that brings the iconic peat character of Islay without the peated grain. Maturing in casks from the titans of Scottish single malt, Laphroaig and Lagavulin, with a dash of second fill Port and Sherry cask, this release is all about balance with complexity.

Pale blonde in colour, the nose reveals notes of nougat, manuka honey, and peanut brittle with a smoky bacon undertone. The palate is a delightful mix of Werther’s original caramels, maple syrup, and pine needles, finishing with a touch of peat-smoked almonds. Bottled at a robust 62.3% ABV, this whisky offers a dusty, sweet, and slightly smoky experience. With only 371 bottles available, it's a gem for any collector.

Hunter Island Distillery's 'European Oak Para Tawny Cask'

For those who appreciate a bit of history with their dram, this whisky matured in a 50-year-old European Oak ex-Seppeltsfield Para Tawny cask is a true masterpiece. Crafted from a signature mash bill of malted barley, green barley, and oats, this triple distilled, non-chill filtered whisky is cut to a mellow 49% ABV, making it the distillery's softest expression to date.

Expect a viscous, oily texture loaded with nutty, buttery goodness. This whisky encapsulates the richness of its heritage cask, delivering an approachable yet complex flavour profile that’s perfect for those quiet autumn evenings.
